Münster and the Münsterland

Conventions in the most liveable city in the world

Münster is the “most liveable city in the world” (LivCom Award 2004), an award already granted by the UNESCO. Moreover, the Westphalian metropolis is Germany’s "climate capital", having at last been awarded gold within the framework of the European competition "Entente Florale". You didn’t know about that? Then it’s high time to personally convince yourself of Münster's assets that are well worth seeing.

Münster and the Münsterland are closer

The airport shuttle from Muenster Osnabrueck International Airport takes as little as 25 minutes to the city centre. Arriving by train is fast and easy thanks to the good connection to the ICE and IC routes; for car travellers, there is the direct connection to the A1 and A43 speedways - no matter whether you arrive from the Rhine-Main region or from Northern Germany: Münster and the Münsterland stay close.

Conventions that will be remembered

Cosmopolitan and dynamic, Münster provides the daily setting for both national and international meetings, seminars, and conventions. Your congress is guaranteed to become a success by more than 60 hotels, bigger and smaller ones, city centre as well as country hotels as well as numerous other conference facilities, providing space for both smaller groups and major events of up to 4,000 attendees+.

This variegated proposition is completed by our extraordinary conference locations: have you ever had a meeting in a former chapel? Or in the elephants’ house of Münster’s All-Weather Zoo? We have plenty of ideas - just look and see, we’ll be glad to advise you!

The beautiful face of Münster: Framework and accompanying programmes

Why not enjoy Münster and the Münsterland after the conference? A foray through the historical old town, one of the major cultural monuments in Germany, is as much a must as a visit to the mighty St. Paulus Dom (St. Paul's Cathedral) in the very heart of the city, in the shadow of which the weekly market takes place twice a week. The Erbdrostenhof and the Schloss Münster (castle) are two of the magnificent representatives of classical architecture in the city centre. But in Münster, there’s more on offer than you expect, and not only in the daytime. In the evening, Münster plays its strengths based on the diversified cultural and catering offerings. You might have a presumption already - nothing stands between you and a great social programme.

More than 30 museums reside in Münster - including the Kunstmuseum Pablo Picasso Münster (Münster Museum of Pablo Picasso Art) that’s unparalleled throughout Europe. The LWL-Museum für Kunst und Kultur (LWL-Museum of Art and Culture) was reopened in autumn 2014 after 5 years of rebuilding. Furthermore, there are dozens of modern works created by artists such as Claes Oldenburg, Richard Serra or Thomas Schütte thanks to the decennially hosted "sculpture projects münster".

Whether on foot or by bike - we will arrange an accompanying programme for you that may even reach into the Münsterland. A guided bicycle tour on a bicycle track network of more than 4,000 km will quickly lead your congress members to the historical tourist features of the Münsterland such as, for instance, Schloss Nordkirchen (Nordkirchen Castle), the “Versailles of Westphalia”, or to the numerous other moated castles and manors nearby Münster.

If you like it more sportive, you should bring your golf equipment and relax “drive by drive” on one of the 24 golf courses nearby. Lovers of aquatic sports would rent a canoe, drifting on the river Werse or sailing on a round trip on the Aasee (Lake Aa). And if that's not enough for you, why not go jogging, walking or bicycling on Münster's green belt, the “Promenade"?

In the evening, let yourself be tempted by the theatre scene:  - the Boulevard Münster or the GOP Varieté, the Theater Münster (Municipal Theatre Münster) or the Wolfgang Borchert Theatre; from entertainment to opera - the offering is extensive.

Should you fancy some socialising after the cultural programme, you should immerse yourself in Münster’s nightlife. Jazz at the port, loungy clubs in the city centre, traditional taverns in the Kie-penkerl district - there is no limit to your fantasy. That's why you should keep an eye on the clock...
